Porlezza is an important tourist center, located at the beginning of Lake Lugano at a point where four valleys: the valley of Menaggio, Cavargna valley, the valley of Intelvi valley Valsolda. Porlezza is visited by people from all over the world, thanks to the Mediterranean climate. It is sub-tropical, but in the summer there is a cool breeze. Besides a good opportunity windsurfing, one finds tennis courts, a football pitch and a running track and horse riding there. It is known for its campsites on the lake and the good hotels and restaurants; famous grottos situated in nature, on the mountain slopes, where you can eat delicious typical local specialties. In the old town you will find shops, boutiques and local handicrafts markets. And of course you can stroll along the promenade and enjoy one of the many terraces, overlooking the beautiful Lake Lugano.
On Saturday there's a lively market in Menaggio including clothing, pots and pans, trinkets and food. All kinds of sausage, cheese, olives etc. As for art, you will find the rustic chapel of S. Maurizio (X - XII century, you can stroll along the 9 steeples of Porlezza), the lime-kiln, called "Calchera" (evidence of industrial archeology) and in Cima the marble relief of "Leone di San Marco" on the wall of a church. D uring the winter Porlezza has 4124 inhabitants. Lake Lugano has an area of 50 square kilometers, a length of 35 kilometers and a maximum width of 3 km. The lake is no less than 288 feet deep. There is a daily boat connection between Lugano and Porlezza. The area is a magnificent mountain world. Rich in natural beauty and cultural attractions.
Situated on the southern slopes of the beautiful Italian Alps, just a short distance from each other Lake Como Lake Piano, Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano. There are plenty of attractions in the vicinity of Porlezza. The city of Lugano is 20 minutes from the campsite while Milan is reached in just over an hour. The attractive town of Menaggio is 12 km away, the larger town of Como is 40 km. Valle d'Intelvi (the balcony of Italy) is more than worth it. Here you can see the whole lake of Lugano, in clear weather, the snowy peaks of the Alps in the background.
In the area around Lake Lugano is a subtropical climate. That means from early spring to autumn nice weather.
In the summer the temperature is around thirty degrees. Our experience is that in a period of two to three weeks there's usually a day with rain, but the next day the sun is already shining in the sky!
